Q4: The Results + New Challenge

It’s that time of the year again. We are closing the third quarter of 2014, and that means it’s time for another challenge. But before we get to that, let’s see how I did with the previous month’s challenge.

The Q3 Challenge: Results

1. College

For my college challenge, I listed these 4 courses to complete during the third quarter:

1. Principles of Management – Saylor Academy – BUS208 (3 credits)
2. Principles of Marketing – Saylor Academy – BUS203 (3 credits)
3. Introduction to Computer Science 101 – Saylor Academy – CS101 (3 credits)
4. Managerial Accounting – UExcel Exam (3 credits)

I completed none of them.

It was a complete failure of a college semester. I could throw a lot of good excuses at you, but there’s one reason that can explain it all:

I did not have the sufficient emotional, physical, and mental strength necessary to succeed in college this quarter.

That is the truth, and all I can do is keep moving forward.

2. The Great Books Quest

This challenge went slightly better than college. If you recall, here are the rules I set for myself:

-1 hour a day of Great Books Study, 6 days a week minimum.
-At least 1 article written for each book that I read
-A quick youtube video at the end of the each day, recapping my study and insights

Well, I managed to sustain this habit for about 27 days. Not exactly 3 months.

However, during these 27 days, I managed to completely work through the entire book ‘The Iliad’ and post videos on each chapter.

You can watch the videos HERE.

I have received a lot of encouraging words about these videos, and students have been supported in their education as a result of watching these videos.

This definitely gives me more strength as I move into the final quarter of the year!

The Q4 Challenge

Well, where does that leave us? I’m not in the greatest shape I’ve ever been. I am currently fighting to keep my head in the game.

That being said, I will be much more conservative in Q4.

My only challenge:

1. Principles of Management – Saylor Academy – BUS208 (3 credits)
2. Principles of Marketing – Saylor Academy – BUS203 (3 credits)

I will complete both of these classes. It’s not very flashy. It’s not a lot of work. But it’s enough to break some of the inertia that has crept over me these past few months.

Look out for Lit For Brains to be in better form in 2015 as I regain my strength, and thank you for all of the support!
